The original Preciosa candy bead is a 2-hole bead with a round base making it easy to combine with other elements such as seed beads, sew in a circle to join together or even use in embroidery designs.
How to use 2 hole beads?
2 hole beads, as the name suggests, have an additional hole which allows you to have greater design possibilities than traditional single strung beads. There are many types of 2 hole beads on the market including SuperDuo, Tila Beads and these featured by Preciosa, however, they all require you to adapt a slightly different stitching and threading technique. Even though they are larger in size, 2 hole beads are regarded as a form of seed bead and designed to fit snugly together for bead weaving patterns and stitching designs that need to lie smooth and flat.
You will therefore find many opportunities to incorporate them and you can see some examples on our board HERE.
Many choose to use two hole beads with traditional stitches such as peyote, herringbone and brick stitch or to simply make use of the additional hole in creating multi strand designs and innovative wire wrapping; however you choose to use them they will prove an interesting addition to the craft box.
